Sheffield RAG - BUMMIT - Budapest · 1 June 2010 ·

Sheffield RAG are the Students Union fundraising working committee. We put on large scale fun events from pub crawls to treasure hunts and more... and all in the name of charity. 80% of our funds will be given to 50+ deserving Sheffield causes - we are committed to making a significant difference to our local community and need need your help to do it!

Story

So me Tina and Alan (Team Jamaican Bumsleigh team) all managed to make it from Sheffield all the way to Budapest spending no money on travel (this involved hithchiking and sitting on trains and then begging train conductors to let us stay on for free - we were very persuasive).

We were so lucky and met amazing people who were so kind and willing to help us out with our challenge.  We had a few low points (mainly being stuck and sleeping in Dresden train station) but even without a map we managed to find our way through Europe :)

We did this all for sheffield RAG charities.  have a peek:

Two of these charities are based in Sheffield and so are really really good causes.

Catch 22 – this provides a service to 15 to 25 year olds involved in criminal activities, these people have the potential to offend, and they are offered counselling and education. This charity works with their families and communities so that young people become more productive, independent and therefore the whole community benefits. Over the years, they have worked with tens of thousands of people for young people in difficult situations.

Fable – this charity promotes awareness of epilepsy through education and publicity with money used towards Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy which is a treatment for those with epilepsy which cannot be controlled with medicine alone. They support the Epilepsy Information Drop in Centre in Sheffield and help the family of those affected by this condition.

and because I thought that wasn't enough of a challenge I've decided to run the Sheffield half marathon - basically a 13 mile run around the steep, hilly, mountain like streets of sheffield.

and instead of pestering people twice for money I will combine the two and try and raise as much as i can.

Thank you lots and lots for your donations

I really appreciate the support and will let you all know how everything goes

:) x
