Hannah goes to Zambia!

Lattitude ICS · 1 December 2015 ·
Hello! My name is Hannah, most of my friends would know me as 'the one always on the move'. After a pretty gruelling 7 hour selection day, I have been asked to become a volunteer and travel to Malawi for 3 months beginning this January. I will be working on community projects in the poorest regions in that country. I am so humbled to be a part of this program. Over the past 3 years I have travelled to many countries, but never to Africa.
As part of my commitment to "International Citizen Service" & "Lattitude", I have been asked to raise £800 which will be my own contribution to the placement of future volunteers.
To achieve this goal I'm asking for your help.
I have always wanted to volunteer since I was a child. I began this journey in high school at "Mt St Benedict College" in Sydney Australia, doing the "Vinnies Van", a night van providing provisions to the homeless in the heart of Sydney. This was part of our charity community service programme.
From there I took it upon myself to discover how else I could further my volunteer activities. I became a "volunteer doggie cuddler" (yes that's what we called it!) at "Monika's Doggie Shelter" in Ingleside, Australia.
After moving interstate I wanted to dedicated more time to volunteering and I became a "volunteer assistant zoo-keeper" for 1 year at the "National Zoo and Aquarium" in Canberra, Australia. This was an incredible and rewarding 12 months. I worked with hoof stock which included giraffes, zebras, elands, meerkats and red pandas. Occasionally I worked with lions, tigers, bears (oh my!), aquarium life, kangaroos, native birds and monkeys.
You can see some zoo photos below!
For the past 2 and a half years I've constantly been on the move travelling here and there, discovering the wonders of this unpredictably beautiful world of ours.
As a result of these past volunteering experiences, I am now challenging myself with this mission to Malawi.
This programme is specifically designed to get young people from the UK and my host country together to tackle poverty and its causes. As young people, we are the best placed to do this and change the world for the better in the future. During the 12 weeks I will be living with a local family in Malawi and will be involved in community work projects along with a in-country volunteer counterpart.
I am so grateful to be a part of this programme. I really need your help to raise these funds. Please, please help me achieve my target to help others like me have this opportunity in the future.
Thank you my friends!
