Marathon for the Longford Trust · 30 August 2021

The Longford Trust supports people in prison, or who have been to prison, to study for university degrees. Our programme of 1-to-1 mentoring, employability support, and financial help has a proven record of helping our scholars change their lives.

Story

I have decided to run a Marathon in order to raise money and awareness for a charity that has done some seriously amazing work. I've given myself 3 months to get fitter and spread the word! I will be running the Richmond Marathon and so come and catch me at the event on the 12th of September.

A little description below about the Charity and some of the work done.

Here is one of our scholars, one of the 300-plus young people that The Longford Trust has helped. He is now a trainee accountant. The Longford Scholarships were set up in 2004 by the Longford Trust in memory of the former cabinet minister Lord Longford (1905-2001), a life-long campaigner for prison reform and, more generally, those on the margins of society. He believed in the paramount importance of education in the rehabilitation of those who have served jail sentences.
