Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On April 2nd I will be running the Liverpool Half Marathon, for my  wonderful dad, who was taken too soon, is missed dearly, but will be remembered & loved forever…

In December 2014 I lost my Dad due to a blood clot that travelled to his lung. I’m running the half marathon to raise money for Thrombosis UK, to help raise awareness of the dangers of blood clots and how to prevent and recognise them.

A blood clot that forms in the leg is called deep vein thrombosis (DVT). If the blood clot breaks loose and travels up to your lungs, it is called a pulmonary embolism (PE). Together, they are known as venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Every 6 seconds a person dies from VTE globally, and it remains a major cause of preventable death in the UK.

A DVT may cause some the following symptoms: Pain, tenderness and swelling of the leg (usually the calf), sometimes accompanied by discolouration. Additionally, the symptoms of pulmonary embolism can include: shortness of breath, chest pain, and sudden collapse.

Through promoting awareness to both public and health care professionals, Thrombosis UK aims for a clearer understanding of the risk of thrombosis, with appropriate VTE assessments being carried out and where possible prevention of thrombosis.
