Story
In the next 15 minutes, someone in the UK will be told: "You are losing your sight". RNIB offer practical and emotional support that helps people who are blind and partially sighted to face the future with confidence.
This October I will be embarking on an adventure leaving the UK for colder climates to Iceland to #TrekForSight for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
The challenge is an 18 hour trek through the southern region of Hveragerði encountering some of Iceland’s breathtaking wilderness, which are home to active volcanoes, sheer granite mountains, glaciers, thundering waterfalls, steaming lava fields, plunging fjords, boiling mud pools and spouting geysers.
In October temperatures can range from of 1 Celsius degree to 6 Celsius degree and there is chance of snow. At night temperatures can drop to -10 Celsius degree!
This trek will be a huge challenge. Though, as an employee of RNIB I see first hand what a difference the charity makes to those with sight loss. I would like to raise vital funds to enable RNIB to continue their invaluable support in the community.
£12 means that there can be someone in an eye clinic to listen, someone to support
£75 can offer advice, a listening ear, understanding, and friendship with one of our weekly Talk and Support telephone groups
£250 means that more people can access specialist literature in their surgeries and eye clinics, to help them understand their eye condition better
£1,000 could provide a whole week of dedicated support at an eye clinic, helping people to understand and live with their sight loss.
Thank you for reading my story, please come back and check out my photos, fundraising updates and if you have any opportunities to raise vital funds please do let me know!
