This year would of marked our mummy, Mary Cunningham's 80th birthday, the celebrations would of been mighty, as she was the life and soul of the party, if only cancer hadn't cruelly taken her from us 25 years ago and ripped the heart out of our family. 

Our mummy Mary was legendary, everybody knew her, everybody fell in love with her, she would instantly light up any room with her laughter and fun and yet radiated a kindness, a tenderness, a selflessness we were completely in awe of. Despite juggling a fulltime Health Visitor role and six kids, she always put others first, her family, her voluntary and community work and we even had virtual strangers phoning the house as she took on an agony aunt role. She never had time for herself....ever, her sole purpose in life was to love and nurture her family, to be the voice for those less fortunate and to help ease other peoples pain and worries and I saw first hand she did that right up until her dying breath. She was simply amazing, she was everything to us and 25 years on, with 13 grandkids, who will never know the glory that was their granny,  we still painfully miss her every single day 💔

So to honour what would of been her 80th birthday year, we wanted to do something special to mark this milestone by raising money for a charity close to her heart, while also getting out into nature as a family, which she loved, so the 80 km charity hike idea was born!

Myself, my four sisters Edel, Gemma, Pauline, Stephanie and our brother Michael will lace up the hiking boots and step-by-step get a little closer to mummy up there, by taking to the hills and mountains both locally and further afield over the next nine months, to climb 80 kms all in aid of Action Cancer, a fantastic charity that offers vital support to the lives of those living with cancer and their families.
