Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.

Story

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People are training some wonderful dogs to help people like me break down the barriers and loneliness that hearing loss creates.

It was a terrible shock to me when I went to bed one night in August 2000 and woke up the following morning Profoundly Deaf. I cannot hear a door bell, the phone ringing, most importantly I am not aware of a Fire alarm. It was a devastating thing to happen. Could not lip-read, & did not know British Sign Language (BSL) so literally lost a very basic skill, Communication! I started avoiding people, because I could not understand what people were saying, this in turn led to isolation and eventually depression.

It was a hard climb back, I still struggle and get very tired lip-reading, but I found that there was a life after Deaf!

I am now looking forward to my companion’s arrival and to living life to the full. It will be life changing.

Without organisations like Hearing Dogs for Deaf People the quality of life for some Deafened people can become somewhat limited, and this is why I want to raise money for them to help people like myself and especially the children.

If you wish to give to this worthy cause, it would be much appreciated. I have a goal of £1,000, but if I can exceed this all the better. Thanks for your support and I hope, once I get my dog, you will all come and say “hello”
