Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

Story

“When the sun went down on 22nd November 2020 we all lost a very dear friend and our “Old Chelts Crew” will never be the same again.”

Annee was just 56 when she lost her brave fight for life after shockingly being diagnosed with terminal cancer just a few weeks earlier. No one had time to prepare for this devastating news and Covid restrictions prevented us from visiting Annee in hospital. Although we were able to talk to Annee on the telephone and via What’s App, sadly we were unable to say our goodbyes in person.

Annee’s life may have been cut short but she touched so many people as an amazing mum, a loyal and hardworking work colleague but also as a true friend and team player to so many people across the whole of Gloucestershire. She was always a brilliant netball player, great fun, good company, she was caring, determined, generous and so, so beautiful.

Annee inspired so many of us and as one young Chelts player said ”the best hugs, immaculate hair and make up, great legs and the shortest Old Chelts skirt. A legend on the netball court.”

Annee’s last few days were spent at the Sue Ryder Hospice in Leckhampton, Cheltenham where thankfully she was able to be comforted by Josh and Jasmine, her two beloved children, but also where she received the most outstanding love, care and support during her final hours.

Due to Covid restrictions we know that many people were unable attend Annee’s funeral to say their farewells and to remember her in the normal way. In order to mark her birthday, Old Chelts Crew are holding a fundraising charity walk to raise funds for Sue Ryder, walking the Cheltenham Circular Route. We hope this will give other people the opportunity to remember Annee, to reminisce about the times we all spent with her and to show that she will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Josh and Jasmine will be joining us and we know that they will find comfort in knowing that so many people loved their mum and valued her friendship.

If you knew Annee we would love you to join us for all or part of our weekend walk. We aim to raise £2000 for Sue Ryder so please give generously to our worthwhile cause and remember to tick gift aid (if applicable) in order to maximise your donation. If you are unable to come along but would like to make a donation, we would be very grateful to you and we know that the money raised will be used wisely by Sue Ryder to help others.

Sue Ryder supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, the loss of a loved one or a neurological condition – they’re there when it matters. Their doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.
