Story
Every year, Mongolian child jockeys race during the Naadam festival marking Mongolia’s independence and throughout the summer months. Child jockeys are popular because of their light weight.
A recent UNICEF report highlighted the problems faced by child jockeys in Mongolia, where helmets and safety equipment is not readily available, leading to an increase in preventable injuries.
Often families and trainers don’t report the accidents, so children suffer life changing injuries, exacerbated by receiving inadequate medical support and their families then forced into poverty as their main source of income from horse racing is cut off.
This fundraising page has been set up to raise funds to donate helmets to child jockeys. We are aiming to distribute 2,000 helmets in Mongolia in 2015.
Please help by donating money or helmets. If helmets, please contact Wendy Chung wwmchung@hotmail.com (07718 987 732) and Will Dodsworth will@gohelp.org.uk
