Welcome to the UCL takes on the Colombia Lost City Challenge! These incredible students are taking on the challenge of a lifetime all whilst helping in the fight against meningitis and septicaemia.

Story

In Summer 2024, I will be trekking across the Atlas mountains. To undertake this challenge, I will be raising £1490 for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

What is meningitis?

Meningitis is a potentially life-threatening infection of the membranes around the spinal cord and brain. It affects more than 2.5 million people globally and can kill someone in mere hours. Young children and students can be particularly susceptible.

Why support the charity?

Meningitis Research Foundation have 4 main goals for 2021-2025:

1. To enable research to understand the illness better

2. To increase public engagement in meningitis and make it a global health priority

3. To secure the profile and funds to deliver their goals

4. To increase their capacity to widely deliver

By 2030, the charity wants to defeat meningitis, reducing new cases by 50% and deaths by 70%.

I will be posting updates on this page and on my Instagram account @hermione_kd. Thank you for supporting me on my fundraising journey. Any donations are deeply appreciated.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
