* * * We made it! * * *
After an exhausting 100 miles, walking over some pretty rough terrain and BIG hills with huge rucksacks on our backs, we made it to the end of the walk in Fort William on Saturday. There was no time to spare though - (after one or two celebratory drinks in the pub!) - we climbed Ben Nevis on Sunday!
We were blessed with beautiful weather for all of our seven days walking, with only a short spell of drizzle at the top of the 'Devil's Staircase' - (a steep ascent to 550 metres). There was plenty of snow and ice at the top of the Ben though, and no shortage of rain for the walk down, but we enjoyed every minute of it!
Thank you to everyone who's sponsored us and helped to raise a huge amount of money for a very deserving charity!
Pictures going up onto the web soon... and if you've been meaning to sponsor us, but just haven't got round to it yet - you've still got a bit of time.
* UPDATE * Train tickets have arrived, boots are broken in and accommodation is booked! We're all set for a March 31st departure for Scotland, setting off on the Walk on Sunday 1st April. We'll hike for seven days, and climb the Mountain on the 8th - camping and staying in Hostels along the way. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far.
* UPDATE * Challenge date changed to 1st April 2007
MIND's important work helps people from all backgrounds with mental health issues to live full lives, and play their full part in society. They rely on donations to keep them going, so please dig deep and sponsor us online.
The West Highland Way is a 95 mile (more like 100 if you include detours to villages, campsite, hostels etc.) route through some of Scotland's most beautiful, but rugged landscape - it's a tough trek, and we're aiming to complete it in 7 days, with the ascent of Ben Nevis on the 8th day.
Ben Nevis is Britain's highest mountain at 4,406ft, and during the West Highland Way we'll have made ascents totalling 11,600ft - so by the end of the expedition we'll have climbed the equivalent of 16,000ft !
It's not going to be easy - but with your help it'll be worth it.
This is a privately organised and funded trip - so everything you donate will go straight to the charity: not to funding the cost of the expedition.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Mind The Mental Health Charity will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you - so please sponsor us now!
Thank you for your support.
