Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Mental health has been a strange one for me. I have heard stories my family struggling throughout their lifetimes with mental health. Since I was young I have struggled and seen multiple counsellors and been on medication pretty much continuously since I was 13. Stress, anxiety, low mood. About two years ago I got a diagnosis of ADHD followed by a diagnosis for my daughter and currently awaiting assessment for my other daughter. Things are starting to make a bit more sense but this is just the start of a massive long journey.

When I was in secondary school I kept it all quiet and hidden and at my prom I told my tutor of my mental health struggles and she said why didn’t you tell us all earlier, we would have known better how to support you all of these years! My A levels and degree I suffered in silence again until the college made me seek help and support. This came in the form of mentoring and assessments for equipment to help me cope again. I don’t necessarily see it myself as it is just me, but it does have a massive weight daily. One moment I am up, the next moment down. Going from I want to take on the world and support everyone to burn out…. And I think that is where I have ended up again.

I have lost two family members through life getting too tough for them and there was no other way out for them. One of those was postnatally to which inspired me to want to support pregnant women and new mothers. I too struggled postnatally and had a psychiatric nurse come and support me during my second pregnancy. I see so many people around me struggling and try my best to support them. It was a child in my husbands school taking his own life which pushed me do my teen and kids yoga training. I want the next generations to have tools to support them when the darkness sets in.

I have been to mind sessions in the past which have been really supportive and I want to give back. I spent 2 years with sport in mind offering yoga on a psychiatric ward and in the community for those with mental health struggles and it made a massive difference.

I am not that great when it comes to my own care or dedicated practice. But I am determined to do this for me as well as using this to support many others in their battles too. I know when I do step onto my mat I leave feeling so much better. It is my safe haven. So please do roll out your mat with me or donate below and let’s see if we can make a difference, no matter how small. Bringing some light to someone else’s darkest moments.
