Story
I’m undertaking 62 miles (100K) in March to help raise awareness for Diabetes UK.
For the month of March I’ll be walking or running 3.5K each day to complete this challenge. Raising awareness and improving research and treatment is a cause close to my heart, please take a moment to read my Dad’s story below….
2 years ago we lost my Dad to complications caused by Type 1 Diabetes. Diagnosed at 21 years old he took all the challenges it presented in his stride, living an active life. He was a golf player, football fan, musician and family man who loved to travel.
In 2015 he had a successful kidney and pancreas transplant and we were lucky enough to celebrate his 60th birthday together as a family 4 years later.
However in 2020 following a heart attack he was informed he had PAD (Peripheral artery disease) an aggressive condition that those with diabetes are at high risk of developing. He suffered several heart attacks and a leg amputation due to complications of this condition and after spending time in and out of hospitals undergoing treatments, he sadly passed away in November 2023.
I’ll be completing this challenge in his memory. Thank you for your support 💙🧡
Diabetes UK is the UK’s leading charitable funder of diabetes research. For 90 years, their research has been behind some of the biggest leaps forward in diabetes care and has helped to support those living with this condition.
