We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

I DID IT!

It was the most amazing experience of my life and I was truly awestruck with the scenery and China itself.  I was trekking for 5 days and apart from 1 morning we had fantastic sunny weather.  Day 1 was a steep climb to the wall, trekking along the wall and the a tobogan off!  Day 2 was a wonderful trek in Great Dragon National Park and up to the highest watch tower on the wall through heavy undergrowth!  Day 3 was the beginning of our adventure along the unrestored part of the wall - walking on narrow ridges with nothing but a steep drop either side!  Not great if you had vertigo but I hummed my way across it!  Day 4 was a intensive trek along a remote part of the wall leading to the 1200 Simati steps - and Day 5 was the 1200 steps to the Simati tower and then a trek throught a traditional Chinese farm!

The food was fab - although got abit fed up of rice but the accomodation was great - either traditional lodges or hostels!

The group of 28 trekkers were a fabulous group ranging from 60 years old down to 22 years!  We formed such a fantastic bond from day 1 and we all helped each other along the way.  Everyone had their own reason for being there - but most were there like me because of a family member suffering with depression.  It was a great privledge to listen to other peoples stories and realise the complexity of mental illness that makes it such a difficult illness to conquer.  A big piece of the higeldly pigeldy puzzle that is depression was filled in for me on the trip and I have found a peace with our loss.  We had a 1 minutes silence on the last day where I thought of Dad and all my other loved ones that have been touched.  It was a very emotional trip as I am sure you can imagine - but a huge delight for me to be apart of.

Thank you for your support, messages of Good Luck and on behalf of Mind, a huge thanks for the fundraising!
