Arup Jump For A Cause 2011 · 11 June 2011

There is no Planet B, and time is running out. We're galvanising the engineering community to ensure it serves all people and our planet better than ever before. Together, we put global responsibility at the heart of engineering.

Story

Hello! Thanks for visiting my Justgiving page, hopefully the following cringe-worthy message will persuade you to sponsor me and donate to the excellent EWB cause  :)

On the 11th June I will be jumping out of a plane to raise money for Engineers without Borders. The event has been organised by one of this year’s grads, a passionate skydiver, who managed to persuade me to get involved. “It’s for charity”, he said. “It’s completely safe”, he said. “You’re only going to free-fall 2300m at speeds of up to 130mph”, he said. He also said: “Don’t worry, only one person dies per year in the UK on average…” and yet I was still convinced to sign up. Of all the dumb things that I have ever agreed to down the pub, I think this has to take the prize as being the dumbest! But I'm signed up now and there's no way out...

31 people are taking the plunge for Arup’s six main charities and every pound that is raised will be matched by Arup. The group’s aim is to reach a total of £10,000 for charity.

As many of you know, EWB is an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering, - so please sponsor me for this completely idiotic stunt - your contributions will be going to a great cause!

If you think that jumping out of a plane is not quite enough and you have any creative fundraising ideas or things that you'd like to see me do then please suggest them. I may just do them if they are reasonable/cool. I've had requests to dive in a tiger suit!

Finally, as proof of the event and in order to capture the unrivalled, under-garment changing fear, I will plummet to earth with a head-cam on. So come the following Monday you can all have a good snigger at my expense when I show the video.

"Justgiving" is a good way to donate, as their blurb below exlains:

"Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now."
