As part of my year as President of The Confederation of Passenger Transport I wanted to continue what seems to have become an informal tradition, which is raising money for Transaid, the charity that funds fund some fantastic transport based projects in Africa, which really do make a difference to people there. 

TRANSAID’S WORK

One of Transaid’s core objectives is to empower people to transform their own lives through access to vital services, such as healthcare. People living in rural areas of Africa often struggle to access vital services and according to the World Health Organisation, around 75% of maternal deaths can be avoided through timely access to vital childbirth-related care. Transaid works to enable women, children, and men in rural communities to reach health services when they are in need, often using innovative modes of transport in order to do so. Please see the video below to find out more about Transaid’s emergency transport scheme in Zambia, which used bicycle ambulances to transport expectant mothers to health facilities.

The project, named ‘MORE MAMaZ’, has been a huge success. Over less than three years, 4105 women have been transferred to health facilities in some of Zambia’s most rural areas.

We will be leaving London on Friday 22nd September and arriving in Paris on Sunday 24th.
