Story

Ohhh.....kaaaaaayyy, I've put this off for as long as I reasonably can. This October, together with a (worryingly) small team, I am planning to swim the length of Loch Ness (22 miles) to raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer; its symptoms, and the benefits of early diagnosis. As some of you know, my mum lost her battle with this horrible disease in February of this year and the whole family were shocked at how difficult it seemed for the medical professionals to actually diagnose it. The plan is to do something that (in a very, very small way) reflects a fraction of the loneliness and fear that terminal cancer patients must go through. Bare in mind I am, at best, an average swimmer and morbidly phobic of deep, dark, murky water. I've been putting this off because pressing 'post' means I am comitted to doing it. I don't know if I'll be able to swim the entire length, but I now will have to at least get in. Worryingly though, due to the water temperature being warmest in October, we will be starting the swim before the sun comes up and finishing after it sets.

P.S. if people could refrain from shouting "Release the Kraken" that would be very welcome. (oh bugger)

We are the UK’s leading ovarian cancer research charity. In the UK only 1 in 3 women live more than 10 years after diagnosis. We are working to better prevent, treat and detect ovarian cancer, so that by 2032 at least half of women with ovarian cancer live for 10 years.
