We help people with mental health problems to still achieve their ambitions.

Story

I am taking part in the South Downs Way 100 on June 11th which will see me attempt to run (and walk) 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne along the beautiful South Downs.

I will start in Winchester at 6am on Saturday 11th June and will have 30 hours to complete (cut-off time for the event).  This is an organised event by Centurion Running.

Why am I doing this.  Good question.  Running has become a very big part of my life since losing my first wife, Julie, 14 years ago.  Julie died of a heart attack at the very early age of 36, leaving 4 children who at the time were aged between 6 months and 10 years old.

I did my first 10k event in April 2009 and loved it.   From this point I have always looked for the next challenge.  To begin with it was about going further with my first half and full marathons, then it was about going quicker and trying to beat my personal bests.  In recent years I have lost the speed and that has brought me back to distance.  I completed the furthest I have ever run on 9th April this year with a 50 mile run.   Next up is this 100 mile event.

Our Mental Health is so important to us.  Sometimes we need a bit of help to overcome the stresses of life and the impact this has on us.  Running for me is my escape.  I want to provide an opportunity for others who may not have yet found running as a way of helping improve their mental health and wellbeing.

All money raised will go to helping me further build up the run club that I started before the pandemic and reach out to those who could benefit from joining.
