Y Care International is the international development and relief agency of the YMCA in the UK and Ireland. We work in partnership with YMCAs in the global south, funding and supporting grassroots development programmes that help young people lift themselves out of poverty.

Story

On January 16th I will be volunteering through ICS with the charity Y Care International for a 12 week placement in Bangladesh.I will be working with a local YMCA running various sessions on rights, gender equality and health as well as delivering activities and lessons at informal schools and with other young people in the community. The aim of Y Care in Bangladesh is to encourage civic and educational participation.

ICS is an overseas volunteering programme for young people, supported by the UK government's department for international development. It supports development projects who have actively asked for their help. I will be partnered with local volunteers as well as UK volunteers: ICS aims to inspire active citizenship and collaborate for long term community development. The first part of my challenge is to raise £800 towards the work of Y Care International and ICS. The money does not go towards covering my costs, but to ensure it is possible for the programme to continue running for both UK volunteers and those in country as well.

I will be doing various fundraising activities; selling cards, clothes, babysitting, and organising an event as well as working to support myself. If you are able to donate anything at all it would be an enormous help. Thank you!
