Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi All,
To be honest not sure what to write, I don't want to write a sad story for treatment my children have had or may need to have because to be honest we are lucky. We visit GOSH when they hold genetic clinics as my boys have rare a genetic condition. At the genetic clinic it seems more like a children's party in waiting room rather then a hospital waiting room. In one corner of the waiting room there's children covered in glitter from doing crafts, another area have children playing with toys and another area where blind children learn to use white sticks to help them stay safe. With all the activity going on it is clear that all the staff are passionate about making hospital appointments which can be stressful times be a time that is actually fun.
At GOSH they go above and beyond to make everything easier, procedures are clearly explained and supported with the use of a play leader. White walls are colourful as to be more welcoming and x-ray machines are rockets with laser powered cameras not a machine that can look like a monster to a child. The people that make it what it is, is not just the GOSH staff but also the volunteers who are all over the hospital who give up their free time to help with everything from negotiating your way round the hospital to face painting nervous children or bored siblings.
So at Christmas we wanted to give thanks to those who will be working at the hospital and missing Christmas with their family. We want to show how grateful we are that our Christmas is not spent in hospital like so many others might be.
Much more eloquently said by Ruth Carter Stapleton
"Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most."
