In a few months’ time I shall be setting out on the Camino de Santiago. This is a 500 mile ancient walk that begins in France, takes me over the Pyrenees into Northern Spain, ending in in Santiago de Compostela. I reckon this will take me around 5 weeks to complete. What originally started out as a personal celebration for my 50th birthday, has now taken on a new twist.

A few weeks back, as I was happily going about business, excited in my decision to do this trip, I just couldn’t skirt from an issue that we witness every day....the homelessness on our streets! I think you would all agree how worrying it is to see the desperate and hopeless situations people are finding themselves in. The reasons and questions this raises are complicated and hard to answer, but emotionally felt every time I pass someone sleeping on the street. It is wrong.

Having supported many charities over the years, I have never actually raised any money myself, so through my trip I am going to do just that.

I have chosen a smaller, local charity, Evolve Housing + Support. They provide shelter, support and solutions to homelessness, for people with mental health issues and or drug and alcohol addictions. Together, making a plan to regain their independence, to get back to work, find homes and live healthy lives.

We all have our own struggles and get so caught up in our lives. I know I often feel guilty for not doing more for those less fortunate than me. This is my way of expressing my empathy and supporting those who do, and make a difference. Would you like to support me in my little mission? I hope so.
