Lyke Wake Walk · 25 June 2017

York Against Cancer is a local charity helping local people affected by cancer. We provide care and support for patients and their families in York and North & East Yorkshire, fund pioneering cancer research and provide cancer awareness education and information. We'll get through this together.

Story

In 2016 the Jack Birch Unit conquered the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, taking in 3 mountains, walking 26 miles in 10 hours and, thanks to all our lovely friends, raising over £1700 for York Against Cancer.

For 2017 we're going even further to take on the Lyke Wake Walk, a full West to East crossing of the North York Moors National Park.  To call it a walk doesn't do justice to the 40 miles up hill and down dale the team will have to trek starting in the dark at 2am and aiming to finish in less than 24 hours.

Starting at Osmotherley using headtorches the team hopes to pass the Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge for a bacon roll before heading on past Fylingdales Early Warning Radar Station and towards the coast finishing at Ravenscar.

If we manage it, we hope to raise lots of lovely cash for York Against Cancer and anyone who finishes will earn membership of the Lyke Wake Club (Female members are titled Witch and males are titled Dirger).  It's a serious challenge and we hope to raise some serious cash, so please give generously.

Thank you so much for supporting us, York Against Cancer is an amazing local charity (for more information about the charity please click on their link to the top right of this story).
