Born Survivor for Baby D (GOSH)

Born Survivor · 24 September 2016
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am taking part in Born Survivor on 24th September 2016 at Capesthorne Hall in Manchester, a 10k run and military obstacle course, to raise funds for Great Ormond Street, who are currently treating my gorgeous and brave nephew, Daniel.
When Ali's waters went on the 6th September 2015, they thought it was the end of the road for Baby D. They were told that if Daniel was born at 23 +3 weeks he only had a 5% chance of survival. The doctors said that he had a 90% chance of arriving within 48 hours due to losing the waters around him and if he did they wouldn't resuscitate him.
Daniel beat those odds and after holding on for 23 days he arrived at 26 +5 on the 29th September 2015. He had a 78 day Nicu stay, but came home without oxygen and was generally very healthy apart from having his hernias repaired.
On 1st April Daniel started to develop a rash, which was put down to a virus. The rash continued and after 9 days of the rash he was diagnosed as having 'Blueberry muffin syndrome' . The syndrome was either due to leukaemia, neuroblastoma or cytomegalovirus. After many tests and an 11 day anxious wait, he was diagnosed as having myeloid sarcoma, a rare form of leukaemia that had originated in his bone marrow and spread to his skin. He is now being treated as having acute myeloid leukaemia.
Daniel is being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital and their charity needs to raise £50 million every year to help rebuild and refurbish Great Ormond Street Hospital, buy vital equipment and fund pioneering research. With your help GOSH provides world class care to very ill children and their families.
GOSH is the only hope for some children.
I thought what better way to pay tribute to my hero and very own true Born Survivor, Daniel, than participating in this event 5 days before his first birthday?!
