We safe and decent homes for families to build new lives, hopes and opportunities

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As we witness the invasion of Ukraine, around 10 million people have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety. People fleeing Ukraine are now without a safe place to call home, forced to shelter in tents at the border of their neighbouring country. The conflict in eastern Ukraine has left over 12 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance and protection. Habitat for Humanity National Offices in the neighbouring countries of Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia are responding to the Ukraine crisis. They are supporting refugees fleeing the conflict arriving at bordering countries through:

  • The provision of essentials to those who have left everything behind.
  • Providing vital equipment including heaters and mattresses to the transitory shelters immediately on the border.
  • Working in partnership with local hotel groups to provide first week stay vouchers for families transiting through each country or looking for longer term accommodation 400 hotel rooms provided in Romania to date.

About the charity

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.
