Cardiomyopathy is a cause that has become very close to our family. In October 2016 we very unexpectedly lost our father at the young age of 58. We later found out that this was as a result of heart failure, with cardiomyopathy playing a major role.
As a family we were not aware of what cardiomyopathy was and how it affects individuals. On our journey following our fathers death we set out to understand more and came across the Cardiomyopathy UK Charity. It was a huge help for us, providing information and resources to understand the condition. Although our father sadly did not win the fight against heart failure Cardiomyopathy UK set out to show that you can live a full life with a heart condition, and offers support on all levels to individuals and their families.
This October I set out to run the Virgin London Marathon. I have never been a natural runner or enjoyed running, in 2017 I ran my first ever Half Marathon and thought I would never run again. However observing many achieve remarkable things over the last couple of years pushed me to embark on another challenge, one that will truly test me and my focus.
Through my journey I wish to also raise awareness of cardiomyopathy and help raise funds for Cardiomyopathy Uk in order for them to be able to support other family's, and so others can hopefully avoid experiencing the sudden unexpected loss that we experienced.
