Sponsored silence · 17 February 2017

With more than 140 years of caring for animals in Guernsey, the GSPCA is growing to meet the demands of the modern world with enthusiasm, optimism and energy. The role now, as in those early days, of preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to animals, through education, is as strong as ever.

Story

I visited the GSPCA shelter with my Cubs group and loved seeing all the cute animals, including some sick hedgehogs and Sami the rescued seal.

They told us how much it costs to look after the animals each year, and I like the fact they help animals that are sick or not looked after properly. So I wanted to help.

I came up with the idea of a sponsored silence because I thought it would be really hard, as I'm normally nice and noisy! My school - St Martin's Primary - were very supportive and let me do my silence on a school day. I had to write everything down on a whiteboard because I couldn't ask any questions. I even went on stage in assembly so my head teacher could explain what I was doing and why.

Thank you to all our family and friends who have sponsored me. I'm really proud of what I did - but I'm also pleased it's now over!
