Story

Jack's story -

At the age of 21 you don’t really want to have to write your bucket list, but knowing you have Huntington’s disease concentrates the mind. It’s a ticking time bomb.

I have Huntington’s and in April I'll be ticking one item from my list, when I
run the London Marathon for Brain Research Trust. I'm asking you now if you can
help me fund some of their amazing work.

Last year, my friend Claudia ran the London Marathon for Brain Research Trust in support of me, and I started learning about their work. I’ve been totally
inspired by her amazing achievement, as well as the research that Brain
Research Trust funds, and by the support and kindness the charity have showed
us.

I’m training hard. I’ve never been much of a runner before I got my place,
but I want to spread awareness of HD and give support to other young people
like me.   My mum, Juliette, was very surprised that I had committed
myself to this (remembering the lengths I'd go to to avoid the dreaded cross
country events at school). So, always keen on a competition - and I think she
believes she might beat me so she has agreed to run it with me.

Juliette's story -

We were all humbled by Claudia's achievement last year - both in running the marathon in support of Jack and in the funds that she raised for the Brain Research Trust so much so, that when Jack said that he was going to apply (knowing that running is definitely not his activity of choice - and therefore I might have an opportunity of beating him ) I applied too.  Hence our joint fund
raising page.

You may not have heard of Huntington's - it's a condition in which symptoms usually develop when people get to the age of 30 and then continues to progress relentlessly. So one of the lessons that we as a family have learnt over the last couple of years since Jack was diagnosed, is not to put off events and challenges, but just get on and do them.  I had been putting off the London marathon all my life but now seems the perfect opportunity to take up the challenge and support the much needed research into this disease.

We are not sure if research into Huntington's will result in a cure in Jack's
lifetime, but we  are determined to help fund research that could benefit
future generations. Please help us raise funds for Brain Research Trust by
sponsoring us.

Thank you!
