Maggie's on the Runway Models 2021

Maggie's on the runway 2021 · 16 October 2021
2021 was hard for everyone and just as the country started opening back up I said the words "I found a lump" words that changed mine and my families life in so many ways... So here's my story I was 33 when I got diagnosed, I have 2 boys, Ethan has just turned 13, Jack is 7 and I married my wife Sarah 9 years ago. It was a lump that my consultant had said "is probably nothing to worry about" one week to life changing triple negative breast cancer which is more common in younger women and aggressive which is why From that point felt like a whirlwind of information, telling people, appointments and probably not taking a lot in...chemo first... At first I was offered the cold cap during my treatment(is exactly as described a cap that's cold) that helps you try and keep your hair... But as a migraine sufferer that was soon taken away.... So rather quickly I began to lose my hair... Which at the time felt devastating and the bit in all this I have honestly found the hardest as I know looked like a cancer patient... I had to have 12 weeks of once a week chemo which was hard, I could hardly eat, I couldn't get out of bed, sick "hats" were a god send and don't even get me started on the injectios! .. I managed Christmas at home but started the new year in hospital (my second stay at the Christie) as I needed a blood transfusion and was fighting an infection.. once I had finished one chemo I started a different set of it... 9 weeks of once every 3 weeks...then came the next chapter a double mastectomy as with the rest of my journey I was very open about the operation and raised money my doing a "guess the weight, boob edition" 1.125kg If you were wondering which gave my consultant a giggle ... This was preventative surgery but as triple negative is aggressive it had a high chance of coming back..... Once I had recovered from surgery then was physio and radiotherapy.. 15 sessions which again made me feel absolutely rubbish but it's done and have now had the all clear ... But from the beginning of my treatment Maggie's has been in the background... They helped me and my wife with paperwork to help me get PIPs as suddenly there was a gap in the money coming in and that is extra stress we didn't need, they were so welcoming and understanding.. my wife has popped in a few times while I've been on treatment for a brew or just to use the toilet... With amazing smiles everytime they were always so welcoming and chatty.. The people there Were happy to listen to you and offer kind words of support to help you off load at such a difficult time. Running Maggie's though isn't cheap this is where the Maggie's runway comes in... To try fundraise to help keep this amazing place open to as many people as possible... So please any amount would be gratefully received..
