Story
Hello, my name is Jacob Moore and I have the privilege of being one of the few students accepted into RADA’s Technical Theatre and Stage Management course, a course in one of the best universities in the United Kingdom onto which only thirty students are accepted per year.
Whilst I am overjoyed to have achieved such a feat, there is one challenge prior to my attendance. Although I am receiving the maximum amount of student loan and maintenance loan/grant, this will still not be enough to cover the costs of living in London for the course.
The money that you give will be used to cover essential costs, for example:
- Meal vouchers for lunch in the RADA Refectory £28.75 per week, £345 per term
- Annual travelcard (zones 1 – 2) = £896
- Rent payments require an extra £750 every three months
- The costs for equipment throughout the year will be in the range of £1000
- £99 will cover the deposits needed for essentials at RADA such as library membership and passes.
This is one of the best courses in Britain for the career that I have wanted to enter since I first started working backstage when I was fifteen. Throughout the four years since then I have volunteered to do backstage work for my local amateur dramatics society, amateur musical theatre society and the local theatre itself, a theatre run solely by volunteers other than two paid members of staff. During these years of volunteering on every show that I could, I was also able to undertake paid work for the pantomime over Christmas, with that role being reprised during the coming winter period in order to go towards my rent for the year; however even with this money it will still be difficult to cover my costs.
This is why I am appealing for your help, your donations will go towards the extra money that I will need for my rent, as well as food throughout the year. Even just ten people giving £5 a week will help me to raise an invaluable £2600 that would pay for food at the RADA Refectory and for my travel.
Thank you for time,
Jacob Moore
