Do you know how many gynaecological cancers there are??
5 - Cervical, Ovarian, Vulva, Vaginal and Womb
Awareness of these cancers are very low! How many of us knew the answer above let alone their names. To know the symptons of these cancers together with raising awareness of them is imperative.
Now hind sight is a wonderful thing and if I had a greater understanding of these cancers I know I would have behaved differently. I mean how many of us have thought it won't happen to me! But guess what guys it does! It happened to me!
I was always embarrased to have my cervical screening even though it only takes 5 mins. I missed one, just one screening and then ignored the symptons until it was too late. To be diaganosed with cervical cancer was the worst moment of my life knowing that the very thing I had taken for granted was possibly going to be taken away from me.
The chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brachytherapy was gruelling but I always tried to remain positive and optimistic and I can whole heartily say that I am fortunate in that I survived and to date I am in remission! I can't thank the Dr Hanna and the chemo team at Northamton and of course my family!! I owe them so much!!
I am now dedicated to raising money for The Eve Appeal who work tirelessly to raise awareness and funding for research for all Gynaecologial Cancers.
One of the after affects of cervical cancer is that my legs have to work twice as hard as anybody else! Snow Shoeing is a new charity challenge that involves 6 days of snow, coldness, all the weather elements, frozen lakes & mountains, potential avalanches (think that was in the small print!) walking and ah yes walking with snow shoes up to 8 hours a day with your kit as well.. So you see it's not going to be easy! So please, please dig deep as any donation for the Eve Appeal would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much xxxx
