Way of the Roses · 15 July 2016

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the giving page of the mighty "Coastbusters".

Who are we?

We are a group of descendants of the infamous Mavis Harrison family. The Coastbusters for this C2C challenge is 19 members strong and we hope will be the first of many more to come. As far as cycling goes, I think on the whole we would class ourselves as novices at this point. In-fact, half the team didn't even own a bike until recently.

What are we doing?

"What are we doing?"...I think individually we have each asked ourselves that question at least once during our training so far. Departing Morecambe on the morning of 15 July, we are attempting to complete the 170 mile cycle route, named the Way of the Roses, over the next 3 days. On Day 1 we face 42 miles of undulating climbs and decents through the Lake District, stopping overnight in the village of Airton. Day 2 seems the hardest on paper, as we tackle our largest climb and distance, covering 68 miles towards York. On Day 3, with the hills mostly behind us, we have 60 miles of East Yorkshire countryside to cover before reaching the east coast and our final destination, Bridlington.

Why are we doing it?

Again, a question we have each asked ourselves many times already. But it's simple really...adventure, challenge, pain, overcoming adversity, exhilaration, tears, laughter, and family bonding. Whats not to like...Oh and we are trying to raise a bit of £££ for a charity very close to this family's heart - BLOODWISE. They are a fantastic charity who fund world-class research and offer expert information and support to anyone affected by leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood cancer related disorders (www.bloodwise.org.uk). Without the continuous funding for research into Blood Cancers, this family may be in a very different position today, so we are extremely grateful for the work they do.

Thanks again for supporting the Coastbusters, and please donate whatever you can.
