We enable physically disabled people to to enjoy inclusion through technology

Story

I've been a casual runner for many years and have competed in a  few races in the past including half marathons and marathon. I have eased up on the running over the last couple of years doing much shorter runs for fitness. However, I still always hoped I would get a chance to run the London Marathon and continued to enter the annual ballot without much hope.

As always I entered the London Marathon ballot in summer 2019 not expecting to get a place but low and behold I was told I had secured a place for 2020 on my 50th birthday!!! Covid and injury has meant I've deferred it to 2023.

This is a real personal challenge for me. It will be a real struggle with lots of pain and will definitely involve blood, sweat, injury and tears. It's going to be tough but a real personal achievement and worth while as I am running in aid of Special Effect which is an amazing charity.

My children love  gaming and their consoles and I see that in playing computer games together, all children and young people are equal no matter what their disability or vulnerability. That is why I love Special Effect and the work they do for young people.

Please show your support by donating to this fabulous charity. Any amount is gratefully received. You can read a about Special Effect below.

Thank you so much ❤️

SpecialEffect enables severely disabled people to use technology in any way possible – using whichever part(s) of their body that work best – by adapting tech to their individual needs. It’s so important they can join in with family/ friends, to be includes and not left out. This can hugely benefit mental well-being, self-esteem and quality of life -and much needed FUN!

We specialise in Eye Control Technology. Imagine: You wake up after an accident. You can’t move anything except your eyes. You can’t speak. Through eye-movement alone, we help people operate a computer so they can communicate and regain a little independence – giving them a voice when hey don’t have one of their own.

Tom, a young man we helped, wrote simply: ‘Thank you for giving me my life back.’ Sadly Tom died a while ago, but he was kept happily gaming right up to the very night he passed away. His family are now good friends of SpecialEffect.

My page donations will be sent direct to the charity in a fast and secure way. Its efficient, saves time and cuts costs for the charity. Let's do this!
