Story

Hi! Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

My name is Alicia and I am 21 years old (2026) I was diagnosed with Ataxia at the age of 2. Since then my family have been raising money to help somehow one day find a cure for Ataxia. I love my life even with the challanges I have . I also want to be inspiring to others.

Living with ataxia has been challenging, especially growing up with little understanding going through school / college with loads of judgement from people instead of offering there support.. but it has never stopped me. I refuse to let it limit my life. And I remember With the support of my family, friends, and my fiancé Bradley, I keep pushing forward, being myself , going travelling, meeting new people, and proving to myself that I am capable of more than I was ever told.

My fiancé Bradley and I are truly embracing life right now. We've built a loving home together, shared with our two rescue dogs who bring us endless comfort, joy, and unconditional love. Together, we're creating unforgettable memories as we travel the world— exploring new countries, cultures, and experiences that continue to open our hearts and minds. From Spain to Cyprus , Cape Verde , Greece then to Egypt earlier this year, our journey has already been incredible, and with Canada, New York, and Dubai ahead of us, the adventure continues. We spend a lot of our time at our family holiday home in Spain . We love immersing ourselves in different cultures, meeting new people, and learning from every place we visit. Bradley is my greatest support. He helps me see possibilities where I once saw limitations, gently pushing me beyond my comfort zone and reminding me to believe in myself. His encouragement gives me the confidence to do things I never thought I could—and to truly enjoy them. Through these experiences, I've learned that having a disability doesn't mean giving up on dreams. It simply means achieving them in different ways, with resilience, courage, and belief. And that realization has been life-changing.

How we have raised our money for Ataxia so far….We have held fundraising events Including BBQ’s and cake afternoons at my grandparents home, where a bouncy castle has kept the children playing happily while parents are enjoying a coffee and cake.we’ve had people doing ice bucket challenges, bike rides to Skegness from Loughborough! And not forgetting my lovely cousin who shaved all there hair off to raise money for ataxia then when it grew back dyed it blue for ataxia !

We also raise money by holding yearly summer fetes at local halls and churches. At these we have a BBQ, bouncy castle, tombola, raffle, face painting, name the teddy , shows , cake and many more stalls. These items are donated by family, friends, local small businesses and local ordinary people that continue to support us.

Ongoing, we have a collection tin at the Maxwells bar and grill in Loughborough and at Loughborough university where customers kindly give small change constantly.

We aim to continue raising money and awareness, - with hopefully more ideas along the way.

Our family and friends have come together time and time again to raise vital funds for ataxia, driven by love, determination, and the belief that a cure is possible. Every event we hold is filled with purpose, community, and hope, and thanks to the generosity of others, we continue to make a real difference. Donating to ataxia research isn't just about funding science — it's about giving people like us the chance to live fuller, more independent lives, free from the limitations this condition brings. Your support helps raise awareness, drives research forward, and brings us one step closer to treatments and a cure. Together, we can turn hope into action and change lives.

Fundraising for ataxia means everything to us, and we are proud of the passion, dedication, and community we've built around it.

Every pound raised represents hope, progress, and a step closer to understanding this life-changing condition. By donating, you are helping fund crucial research, support those living with ataxia every day, and give families like ours something priceless — hope for a future with better treatments and, one day, a cure. Your kindness truly has the power to change lives.

How Alicia’s family see her………

Alicia has the most beautiful personality you’d ever wish to meet. Always so happy and loves her life..Alicia is a very kind and loving person that is always thinking about others and family get togethers! She will see everyone individually and arrange them all to come together and absolutely loves the family community, she’s everyone’s favourite family person and we have a very big family . Alicia was diagnosed with Ataxia at the age of 2 and is now 22 (2026) Alicia is loved so much by all her family that she is known as our “precious", by all of us, as a family; we are praying for her and trying our hardest to raise as much money as we possibly can so that some how in the future we can find a cure for Ataxia.

Alicia has a personality that is so addictive, she is a constant tonic to be around. She gives her all to everything she does and does absolutely nothing by half. Alicia shows her love for those around her and continues to embrace their love for her. Alicia is such a loyal family member and everyone loves her individually.

Alicia’s friends say : ‘’ We have attended many of Alicia's events, and every single one is filled with love, energy, and purpose. Her family's passion for raising awareness and funds for their daughter is truly inspiring. They are so warm and welcoming, and each event feels like a celebration of life, hope, and togetherness. Everyone gets involved, everyone feels included, and you can't help but leave with a full heart. Alicia..You bring so much warmth and joy into the lives of everyone around you, and I appreciate you more than words could ever express. Thank you for simply being you — you mean the world to us. And one day, we promise we will do what it takes to find a cure for ataxia, so you can have everything you so deeply deserve. ‘’

'Ataxia' means ‘absence of order’. People with ataxia have problems of co-ordination. This is because parts of the nervous system that normally control co-ordination and balance are affected.

Ataxia UK aims to support all people affected by ataxia; people with the condition, their families, carers and friends. The charity funds research into developing safe, effective treatments with the ultimate goal of finding a cure for the ataxias. In the meantime Ataxia UK helps people to live with ataxia by providing a range of services that are not available anywhere else, including an advocacy service..
