Malvern Hills Beacon Race · 13 October 2012

Acorns supports more than 800 children and over 1,100 families every year. The charity needs to raise £14 million each year to provide its care services across hospices and community settings. Your support means Acorns can continue to be there for local families facing the unimaginable.

Story

Hi folks! My name is Jai Hill aka The Bard of Malvern. This October I'm running the gruelling Malvern Beacon Race which is 7 miles up and down the beautiful Malvern Hills on October 13th at 3pm. I'm doing it to raise money for Acorns Hospice in Worcester because I really believe in the work they do for terminally ill children and their families.

I ran the race in 2010 and came last with a time of about 1 hour and 45, but I am not a typical runner and I am about 4 stone overweight. This is going to be a hell of feat for me because I am a tubby guy, but I am confident that I can finish the race again even though I had my knee ligament rebuilt in 2009. Please support me to raise money for a worthy cause of supporting terminally ill children and their families.

My special pledge - to the person or company who makes the biggest donation, I pledge to write and peform, while wearing my knight's costume, a specially composed poem for a birthday, wedding or wedding proposal in a romantic setting, anniversary, retirement party, hen or stag do etc. I will do this dressed in my knight's costume and steel helmet and sword which I often wear on Malvern May Day. I have been Bard of Malvern since 1994 performing a comic address on May Day in Malvern for 18 years. Also I have recently compered Mappfest, a rock and metal music festival which raised money for Acorns as well.

The race details from Worcester Athletic Club are:

" The race is approximately 7 miles with a maximum altitude of 1395ft. and magnificent views (weather permitting) over Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire and Wales. The course is very demanding with steep ascents/descents over varying, sometimes unstable surfaces. Please ensure you are fit and able to compete in this type of event –

this is not a fun run. "
