On 21 September I will be taking part in the inaugural Eton versus Harrow white collar boxing match. This event is being put together to raise money for charity. The night will involve three gruelling two minute rounds of being smacked in the face in front of 450 people in black tie at the Brewery in the city.

I am raising money for the National Museum of Computing which is registered charity dedicated to showing the development of computing centring on the extreme wartime efforts that resulted in the development of Colossus the world’s first electronic digital computer. The Colossus machines are believed to have shortened World War II by several months thereby saving thousands of lives by helping to decipher encrypted German messages.

Following the war the machines were destroyed and their impact and existence were shrouded in complete secrecy for three decades. In the 1990’s the Colossus machine was rebuild and is now housed in the National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park. As a registered charity the National Museum of Computing relies purely on private donations which are essential to preserve the museum and Colossus a part of our national heritage.
