After struggling to run much more than 5k over the past few years I've signed up (and done nowhere near enough training) for the RunThrough Battersea Park Half Marathon (22k!) in just under a month's time.
As always, I'll be running to raise money for the Velindre Cancer Centre, who have supported me, my family and both my parents in their individual battles with cancer over the years.
In 2008 my dad was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Thankfully, following major surgery and six months of aggressive chemotherapy, he was eventually given the all clear.
In 2017, after beating it once already, my mum's breast cancer returned and quickly spread to her lungs and brain. She died six months later in January 2018.
I couldn't be prouder of either of them, nor could I be more grateful for Velindre who, in both instances, were with us every step of the way.
Velindre help over 1.5 million people across South East Wales and beyond and their incredible staff work around the clock to provide families with the best possible support, care and treatment through scary and uncertain times.
I'll be running to raise money for them because, as they say, "even with all of its extraordinary qualities, a lion still needs support from its pack".
Just as they did when I last ran for them, Velindre have trusted me to carry their mascot Lomu around with me again on race day (he weighs perhaps 7 grams but you can still bet I'll be blaming any failures on the day on him weighing me down).
Please give as little or as much as you can - no amount is too small and your money might literally save a life!
