We provide brain injury care and support to brain injury survivors and their carers

Story

I decided to take on this challenge in memory of my much loved Grandfather who died suddenly in April this year, following a severe brain haemorrhage. Had he survived, he and our family may have needed the support of Headway Essex.

The challenge itself is a 100 mile cycle starting at the Olympic Park in London, heading out to Surrey and includes the hard climbs of Leith Hill and Box Hill, then back into London and along the Thames for a big finish on The Mall. It's going to leave me exhausted (and very sore) but its all for a great cause and in memory of a great man.

Headway Essex supports people who have acquired a brain injury and their families and carer(s).

All brain injuries are different and an individual can be affected by any number of problems depending on the severity of their injury and the area of the brain which is affected. The effects can be physical, cognitive, emotional and/or behavioural. For every one of these people there will have been no warning and their lives and that of their families are changed forever the instant the injury occurs.

Headway Essex helps individuals understand their brain injury and its effect and helps them to move on and rebuild their life. They help with rehabilitation, coping strategies, emotional and practical support, crisis support, education and on-going help with the many health and social issues they may face.
