London Marathon 2017 · 23 April 2017 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October 2015 I ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon for the Strokes Association. I had got a last minute place through them and remember saying in my sponsorship blurb that it wasnt a cause that had particularly touched anyone i knew, but you never know when you might have a brain attack. I remember thinking shortly afterwards that I sound slightly flippant but its done now and never got round to changing it.

My family came to support me on the day including my Dad.

It was the last time I saw my Dad conscious. The next time I saw him was when I rushed down to the isle of wight- in fact exactly this day a year ago- and he was lying unconscious on a hospital bed. He passed away shortly afterwards. He had had a stroke.

So whilst Dad, and my family, by-passed any need for the help and support the Strokes Association provide so many thousand others with I feel a close connection now with this charity and I hope you will give generously.

Thanks.
