In April 2015 I will be running the 2015 Marathon des Sables in aid of Mencap.

Mencap aims to provide greater equality for people with a learning disability. The charity works to change laws, challenge prejudice and support them to live their lives as they choose.

Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything the charity does is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers.

A learning disability is a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities – for example household tasks, socialising or managing money – which affects someone for their whole life.

The Marathon des Sables is 250km self sufficient ultra marathon, described by the discovery channel as the hardest footrace on earth, which takes place annually in the Moroccan Sahara.

I will be running 6 stages each marathon length or greater everyday for 6 days in excess of 50 degree heat, carrying my kit and food across the dunes.

My water will be rationed meaning I will most likely have to deal with dehydration, on top of sandstorms, blisters, sunburn and the soles of my trainers melting. 

Over the course of the next year I hope to be able to reach my fundraising target of £9,500 to help transform the lives of the mentally handicapped.
