Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. My name is James Waddon and I am running the London Marathon on the 3rd October 2021 for the amazing charity Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of my Dad and hero, Stephen Waddon.
My Dad (Steve) sadly lost his brave battle with Pancreatic Cancer in July 2019, a little over a year from his initial diagnosis.
Most children will look at their parents as heroes but my Dad, although an absolute hero and best friend in my eyes, was a decent man that was loved by his family and a vast amount of friends from all backgrounds.
As most of you know I am keen runner (which made up for my lack of skill in any other sport) and have been lucky to complete marathons all over the world (Japan and the United States to name a few).
Running has been a great release for my grief and is normally the time I think about my Dad and our wonderful relationship.
Although a keen runner, completing a Marathon and especially the London marathon is very important to my memory of my Dad and why I want to fundraise in this way.
I was lucky to complete the London marathon in 2018 with my Dad watching. My Dad was clearly uncomfortable and in pain at this stage but mistook these symptoms as a long standing stomach issue as mentioned above. This day is one of my last memories of my Dad before our whole world changed 2 months later. We enjoyed this day so much as a family with my Mum, wife (Cat) and our daughter (Elsa).
Secondly, my Dad showed to me during his 13 month fight against the terminal diagnosis the characteristics needed for marathon running on a whole different level; determination, courage and unwillingness to give up. I am very lucky to have an opportunity to take part in a hard challenge, doing something I love, in the memory of my Dad.
Please donate with anything you can to help my family raise money in memory of this great man and this amazing charity
