UPDATE: We did it!  It turned out to be the hottest day of the year but we battled our way through the heat and made it to the finish. Our medals are making us feel like Olympians!

We are James and Kendra, Gallery Attendants at Durham Cathedral. On Thursday 25 July we will be taking on the hills of Durham and running in the 5K Durham City Run to raise money for our mighty, magnificent, awe-inspiring Cathedral.

Durham Cathedral is “among the greatest monuments of the Norman Conquest of Britain and… one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in Europe” ( https://www.durhamworldheritagesite.com/heritage ). It oozes history from every stone and is a place of peace and solace for visitors from around the globe.

Though it may be mighty, maintaining and caring for the Cathedral’s buildings and keeping its doors open to visitors from County Durham and around the world is a constant financial challenge. It costs £15 per minute to keep the Cathedral open and its buildings cared for. Unlike public libraries and museums, cathedrals receive no regular financial support from the government which means that fundraising and public donations are absolutely essential for Durham Cathedral’s survival.

As members of Team Durham Cathedral, we have been challenged to raise £150 each. If we achieve this, we will have raised enough to keep the Cathedral open and its buildings maintained for a total of 20 minutes.

We would be so grateful if you would consider sponsoring us. For example, if you are able to sponsor us just £3, you will have funded one minute of vital maintenance to the Cathedral’s buildings all by yourself. As far as we are concerned, this will make you an utter hero of a human being!
