Story

I completed this event in 2014 raising over £1,100 for CAFOD with your help.

The weather was hideous and it was heavy going, partly because I had unwisely chosen my trusty but heavy folding mountain bike.

This time the forecast is for better weather, I am using a lighter bike, and I think I am fitter too although I have to be careful as I injured my back a few months ago.

Training got off to a late start but I have managed a few long rides in the last fortnight, two of them Ivan Kent who will also be riding for CAFOD.

My 1984 Dawes Galaxy has been dusted down and serviced. This will be the longest ride of its life (and mine as the route was shortened by 9 miles last time due to the hideous weather).

Mum died last weekend at the age of 94.  Although I don't remember her cycling in my lifetime, I do have a picture of her on a bike as a girl.  She did take a keen interest in CAFOD and cared passionately about making the world a better place.
