Story

Before you even choose which among the pharmacy schools in Illinois to enroll to, you need to know the rest of the requirements to become a pharmacy technician. First, you need to have GED or high school diploma. A training program or forma education is equally essential. You need to pass a certifying exam, pay for the fees and participate in a continuing education. Lastly, a criminal background check is also done.

Although there are some states that will not require certification to qualify for the job, you will still have a greater advantage against other applicants if you are certified as a pharmacy technician. Besides, it will offer you higher pay if you are certified. There are 2 organizations in the country that offer the certification and among these are the following:

•    PTCP (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
•    NHA ( National Health Career Association)

The above mentioned organizations will require the applicant to possess a high school diploma, pass the exam, at least 18 years of age, at least 1 year work experience and has completed the training program. The pharm tech concerned must also take the effort to rectify the certification every 2 years by finishing 20 hours continuing education course. You can't be an effective pharmacy technician unless you possess all necessary qualities to be one. You must have the needed customer service skills. Remember that you will be involved in a lot of interaction with the customers in your whole duration of work. Hence, you must have a polite and helpful personality. And the thing is; these characters are something that you can just learn from any pharmacy schools. They must be inherent in you. You must also be detail oriented. If you mistakenly fill out a prescription, it may cost your customer's life. The pharmacist in charge may be responsible in ensuring the correct medication is dispensed. However, you need to do your part to make sure that you do and your customer will not end in any trouble.

Listening skill is also important. Clear communication is also important. You will need this in communication with the customers, the doctors and the pharmacist in charge. This is important so you will understand the needs of the customers and collaborate with all the health practitioners in helping the patient to recover.

Do you know that math skills are also important if you are a pharmacy technician? Mat concepts are needed when compounding and counting medications. Meanwhile organizational skills are also important since you need to balance all your responsibilities so you can do them all and complete the tasks delegated to you. All these must be done without compromising the service that you render to your client.

The profession can be very physically taxing sine you may need to stand the entire time. However, you will be favorably paid for doing so. As of Mary 2015, pharm techs receive $30,410. And this steadily increases over time. For more details, you can check out online for helpful sites, of which pharmschooling.org serves as an example.
