In respect of Amanda Rapley-Redfern Memorial Fund
I have supported many clients and friends with Epilepsy and know the disruption and fear it brings to those who suffer with this condition and their families. Thankfully we have come a long way since people who had epilepsy were branded as 'mad' and yet we still have a long way to go - in fully understanding this condition, treating its effects and in management and cure.
One such young lady I supported, who became a valued friend - lived her life to the full, despite her epilepsy. Just one of the students in my care, she went on to uni to study art - she was indeed very talented, driven and commited to her ambition of going to uni - sadly she passed away with her epilepsy just before the end of her first year - leaving a legacy of artwork and love for everyone, of any faith and culture. An inspiration - she was my inspiration for my poetry.
There are others and many stories of course - another dear friend is undergoing pioneering treatment, in the hope of not only being able to manage his epilepsy better but in hope for the future for others.
Epilepsy Research - hope for the future - my story.
