Between 2014 and 2016, there was an average of 363,484 new cases of cancer diagnosed in the UK. That’s an average of nearly 996 people every day. Every 2 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. 1 in 2 of us will now be diagnosed with some form of cancer in our lifetime and currently the survival rate is sitting at just 50%. Cancer amounts to more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK. However cancer survival rates are improving and have doubled in the last 40 years. Incidence rates have increased 12% since the 1990s largely due to a growing ageing population. The number of cancer cases is projected to rise more than 40% to around 514,000 new cases per year in 2035.
