Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Ellie Mai was a beautiful little girl who loved everything in life. She loved helping people and always put money in charity boxes and gave it to buskers. She loved going to London to the theatres and Hamleys, playing with her best friends at school, swimming, baking, face-painting and dancing. She was very rarely ill.
With apparent sudden onset Ellie's health changed and she had a CT scan on her 6th birthday in February 2012, with an MRI scan the following day. Ther results came that afternoon. John and Lisa were greeted by numerous doctors and nurses with the news that would change their lives forever.
Ellie had an aggressive diffuse pontine glioma - a brain tumour. This particular one was very rare and incurable. The prognosis was that Ellie had a maximum of a year to live. Ellie bravely battled against this horrendous disease and was invited to go to Lapland with 'When You Wish Upon A Star' in December 2012. It was an incredible and magical day and one which her parents will always treasure.
Ellie's health deteriorated soon afterwards and by January she was sleeping between 15 and 18 hours a day and she lost her speech. Not knowing what she was saying broke her parents' hearts and frustrated and hurt Ellie. Ellie was such an amazing, brave little girl and a fighter. The nurses called her unique and, "a one off". She kept beating all the odds. Her parents said goodbye four times but she fought so hard and kept proving eveyrone wrong.
In the last week she insisted on visiting Bridlington, feeding the ducks, going to her favourite shop and even though she was so poorly on the Thursday she insisted on going to the Post Office to buy her mummy a lollipop.
The following day during the rare thunder snow storm Ellie became unconscious. She slipped away in Lisa's arms on Sunday 20 January 2013.
This year Ellie's parents are choosing to support When you Wish Upon A Star, to help them to provide precious memories for other children and their families like they gave to John and Lisa parents and their beloved daughter.
My aim is to help Ellie's parents, to raise enough money to sponsor 50 of the 214 seats on the plane that will travel to Lapland from Humberside Airport this year. I hope that you will support me in this quest.
