Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

So it's that time again Charity Walk number 12, boy I did not see that coming when I did the first one 12 years ago in 2010. This was to have been the 10th Anniversary walk, all other walks had been around the 30 mile distance, and walked in one day, this will be 84 miles over 4 days

We are walking 24th to 28th May

It was annoying that the Pandemic delayed the walk, however Hadrian's wall is 1,900 years old this year so it's nice to do the walk on a big anniversary

Considered as the most famous of all the frontiers of the Roman empire, Hadrian’s Wall stands today as a reminder of the past glories of one of the world’s greatest powers. Hadrian’s Wall was made a World Heritage Site in 1987 and is part of the transnational Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site

The wall was built between the banks of the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea. It runs a total of 80 miles and had a stone base and a stone wall.

There were mile castles with two turrets in between. There was a fort about every five Roman miles. From north to south, the wall comprised a ditch, wall, military way, and another ditch with adjoining mounds.

The wall had 80 mile castles, and 17 larger forts. Punctuating every stretch of Wall between the mile castles were two towers so that observation points were created at every third of a mile.

There will be 4 of us walking the wall and any support will be greatly appreciated by myself, Clarke, Alex and Tess
