Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our son Alfie was diagnosed with Leukaemia on 23rd March 2012 at Sheffield Childrens Hospital.  It was at this point that our world fell apart. We were bombarded with information of what to expect from the illness, types of treatment and reactions to treatments, unpronounceable medical terms and numerous leaflets.

It all seemed a blur, both Helen and I were dazed and numb and struggled to take everything in.

Later that day I found myself sitting alone on the front steps of the hospital crying my eyes out unable to understand what was happening to our little man.

Alfie had surgery the next day to have a portocath fitted in his chest to enable chemotherapy to be administered directly into his body, a week later amazingly we were discharged from hospital.

As we left the hospital Alfie chirped up "am I better now" What do you say? Those words will stay with me forever.

The next 6 months was intensive treatment, we watched Alfie gain 50% in body weight caused by the steroids, he lost his lovely blonde hair caused by the high doses of chemotherapy, he had good and bad days, but Alfie being the little character that he is just kept on battling through everything that he had to endure.

We are now 2 years into Alfie's treatment with another 14 months remaining.

Throughout the whole of this we have had such amazing support and help from firstly Alfie's grandma and grandad who have been there no matter what time of day and all the staff at Sheffield Childrens Hospital and PACT. Very very special people.

Myself, Alfie's big brother Ronnie and his best friend Neil have bought a car for £300 which we have entered into the Rusty Rex European Rally Challenge which starts in Reims, France (12th July). The event is over 4 days travelling from France to Switzerland onto Italy and then finishing in the South of France, Nice.
