Story

In remembrance of my brother Jeff Li, who sadly lost his fight to Bone Cancer last year in June 2017. I am taking part in a 24 miles walk from Dundee at Birkhill cemetery to St Andrews, to raise awareness and to raise money for Bone Cancer research trust.

Jeff inspired me through his positivity, strength and outlook on life. He taught me many things in life, how to ride a bike, how to rollerblade etc etc and i am so grateful for the time I got to spend with him. He achieved all the goals he set himself and was always the best at what he did because he was a very determined person(apart from street fighter, I beat him once 😉) I am half as fit as what he was, infact I am so unfit, I run to the bus stop and I'm out of breathe but I am doing the walk so I can pay tribute to my amazing brother.

Jeffs story- One day Jeff woke up with pain in his hip area, the doctor told him it was sciatica due to his work as a postman. The pain got worse and he was rushed to A&E where he got a MRI scan and it showed he had a Tumour. They did a biopsy and the tumour tested benign(non cancerous). The doctors were puzzled and didnt know what to do as what he had was so rare. It was giant cell tumour(growing inside the bone). It was very aggressive and acted like a cancer, yet they could not find any cancerous cells. His case was being sent all around the UK. They said he probably had it since he was young but didn't know why it became a problem when it did. Jeff said "after exercising I would get pain a dull achy pain" and he told me to watch out for this sign for my son growing up as this could be a sign of bone cancer. The doctors were in talks of amputation of his left left leg and in talks of chemotherapy but decieded to remove his left femur and replaced it with metal and he was doing really well for a year but the tumour came back to his lower spine. He received radiotherapy which helped with the pain abit but the tumors then spreaded to his upper spine and lung.  He was going to be receiving chemotherapy treatment but by that time, he was not in a fit state.

The Bone cancer research trust does not receive any funding from the government so rely entirely on the public to continue their life saving work.
