The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a registered  charity with a mission to end hunger and food poverty among children in India and the UK. I recently visited them in Mumbai and was completely blown away by the work they do! (Some of the pics from the visit are in the gallery on this page.)

Their mid-day meal programme in India's state schools, feeds over 2 million children, every day. These meals are served in over 20k schools, and supplied from over 65 - insanely efficient - kitchens across India. 

In the UK they have until now served over 500,000 hot, nutritious, lunches to children at holiday clubs across London boroughs in an attempt to tackle holiday hunger. More about them here - www.tapf.org.uk
